Full Time Centre Assistant

If you are looking for an opportunity to start a career in the leisure industry, then this could be the job for you! As a vital member of the team you will be hardworking, have a flexible and positive attitude and ideally have had experience of working in a team environment. You will have a minimum of 4 GCSE’s, excellent customer care skills, strong swimming ability and ideally hold an NPLQ (although not essential).

The main duties of the role include providing lifeguard cover on poolside, assisting in the programming and organisation of activities, erecting and dismantling of equipment and general housekeeping and cleaning of the facilities at the Centre.

If you have a keen interest in working within the leisure industry, this is a great opportunity to gain new skills and experience whilst working towards an NVQ in Sport & Leisure (conditions apply). Hours are full time, 40 hours per week on a shift rota system including evenings and weekends.

Key Tasks: Major Duties and Responsibilities

    • To patrol all changing rooms in order to supervise the safety of all customers, policing of valuables, cleanliness of all areas and prevention of vandalism. Any such incidents should be reported to the Duty Manager immediately.
    • To operate all locker systems in line with laid down procedures.
    • To provide supervision for all general areas of the centre ensuring the safety and comfort of all participants and spectators.
    • To patrol all swimming pool areas in line with the Safety Operating Procedures in order to supervise the safety of pool users and ensuring cleanliness of all pool areas.
    • To erect and dismantle any equipment as and when directed by the management following specific procedures laid down in the Health and Safety Policy and the Rigging and De-rigging procedures.
    • To ensure all areas of the Centre are clean and tidy at all times as laid down in the Centre’s cleaning procedures.
    • To handle all chemicals used within the centre in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations.
    • To attend staff meetings and staff training as requested.
    • To perform any other duties within the Trust as may be required by the Centre management.

Fitness Class (Cover) Instructor

As a Fitness Class Instructor you will be responsible to the Fitness Class Manager for teaching fitness classes within our class programme. You will have the ability to work on your own, be physically fit, have excellent communication skills and a good level of initiative.  Above all, applicants must be interested in working with people at all levels and have a positive attitude. You will hold a suitable Aerobic or Exercise to Music qualification and be prepared to undertake further training if required. In return we offer competitive rates of pay.

The main duties of the role involve:

  • To work within the Fitness Industry guidelines.
  • To work closely with people at all levels and ages, providing them with help and support during the sessions.
  • To help promote and develop the leisure centre’s Fitness Class programme and membership schemes.
  • To act in accordance with Bridport Leisure Centre’s policies and procedures.
  • T attend staff meetings and staff training as requested.
  • To undertake any other duties necessary as directed by the Fitness Class Manager.

The hours of work will be based on the fitness class programme which is subject to change at any time. There is an expectation with the role that all fitness class instructors will be willing to cover classes at short notice, during times of leave, sickness etc. as and when required by the Fitness Class Manager.

Swimming Instructor

Are you a passionate and committed ASA Level 2 Swimming Teacher with a talent for inspiring your students?  Do you enjoy working with children in small, focused classes providing them with fun and the skills to help them reach their goals?  Would you like to work part time?

Assisting our Swim School Manager with our swim programme your main role will be to teach children and adults of all ages and abilities within our swim school, private swimming lessons and school sessions.

Previous experience of coaching and lesson planning is essential, as is an ASA Level 2 qualification or equivalent, exceptional communication skills and experience within a customer facing environment.

  • The post holder must be physically fit, punctual, well presented and have a good attendance record.

  • Applicants must hold a suitable swimming qualification ASA Level 2 or equivalent and be prepared to undertake further training as and when required.
